Barbora and I are always asked by so many people why it is so important to be your own brand. Our simple answer is that people buy you!! Not so much what you’re selling (even though that is also important).
What we mean by that is you have to make a connection to your audience; they have to feel that they can relate to you and your life.
When people are just starting out in any business they try to immediately sell, sell sell and they don’t realize that they need to first find their target audience then connect with them at a personal level, creating trust and authority in their field.
This will not only create more valued customers, but many years of return customers as you present other valuable products to them in the future. Barbora and I have put together some valuable examples and content to help you with finding your personal brand, how to leverage your identity in your business and why you want your customers to buy from YOU and your brand.
Here is an example of someone in history who made millions from branding their product and themselves.
While Ford is today known for his innovative assembly line and American-made cars, he wasn’t an instant success. In fact, his early businesses failed and left him broke five times before he founded the successful Ford Motor Company.
Mr.Ford failed multiple times in his early life but It’s not so important that he failed 5 times, what is important was he figured out what the American public needs were and connected with their wants with a solid product.
He connected with the general public of that time, telling them that this was the future and how it would help them and their family’s lives in multiple ways.
He knew that not everyone would be able to afford it and tried his best to keep it affordable so almost everyone had a chance to purchase one. Mr.Ford branded himself to the American public as someone they could trust and would deliver on his promises. Branding himself this way made him millions and a place in history.
So our example can apply to every asset of your business. Try to think like your audience, everyone’s audience will be different because you are different then everyone else. Use your life story let your audience know who you are and give them solid honest content that will help them and it will come back to you!!
That’s why we always say it’s so important to be your own brand. No one is quite like you!!!
How to Leverage Your Identity in Business
Now that you have a better idea why branding yourself is so important you must learn how to leverage your identity in business, But how? People always ask us, Share your story, and integrate your personality within your business and the public domain.
The international, unmistakeable Jamie Oliver brand is a great example. This is a young guy who did everything right when it comes to starting an empire. His very first TV cooking show, The Naked Chef, was about laying ingredients bare, keeping things simple, and owning up to being the average guy on the block. “I left school with basically nothing, I was a special needs kid. I did feel as though my school had let me down,” said Oliver. Now there’s a personal background that a lot of people can identify with.
Jamie Oliver embraced his identity and leveraged it via books, television, blogs, webisodes and more to create an entire cultural ethos based on home-cooked meals and healthy eating. Today, he is worth approximately $400 million. Not bad at all.
Here are a few ways you can leverage your own background:
- Include your personal profile on your company’s website.
- Contribute to your own blog.
- Send newsletters that are personally addressed to subscribers and signed by you.
- Host webinars.
Your Brand Is What People Want to Buy
It did take time for Barbora and I to figure this out, we kept trying to emulate someone else”s brand, not thinking that ours was where we should be focusing.
It was when we figured out that we needed to brand ourselves and just be who we really were that people started to be able to relate to our story and situation in life and it was only then we started to have real success in our business.
When we talk to people who are struggling in their business we explain our story and that it can work for them and that your brand is what people want to buy, a life of freedom and financial security.
That’s right. When people buy your products, they are really buying a part of your brand. They are inspired by your personal story, whatever that happens to be. When customers buy from us they’re buying into our story and our personal knowledge.
When customers buy from you, they will be doing the exact same thing. So put yourself out there, think carefully about how you represent yourself, and be the best version of you that you can be. This way, when you cast your marketing net, you’ll see so much more interest and sales than if your business had remained faceless and without personality, or without YOU!!!.
Barbora and I are always here to help at whatever stage you are in your business. Just email us or go to our website and leave a message. We want you to always remember that we have been where you are and will do everything in our knowledge to help you succeed.
To your personal and professional success
